Pluralism is more than a buzzword—it is the foundation of how we function as a university and a community.

Next Wednesday, the USM Forum on American Democracy returns with a critical question: How does pluralism shape civic life and education right here in Southern Maine?

Building on our recent national events, four USM faculty members—Drs. Schmidt, Kasdan, Vázquez Jacobus, and Schmitt—will lead an interactive panel exploring how these concepts play out in our daily lives in Portland and beyond.

Join the Discussion: Wednesday, February 4, 2026 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Hannaford Hall, Portland Campus

We hope you will bring your questions and your perspective to this meaningful evening.
