How do we come to know a place?
How are we shaped by its land, economy, politics, and culture?

Join us for a screening of Belfast, Maine (1999), directed by the late acclaimed documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman.

Belfast is a meditative series of observations of the mundane, capturing a portrait of the small coastal town in 1996. By following Wiseman and his camera through factories, the woods, the town, and out to sea, we glimpse a community working, relating, and navigating their day-to-day. Wiseman helps us see the rhythms of life and what they can teach us.

The film is 248 minutes but can be watched as vignettes. We welcome but don’t expect you to stay the whole time! We will have the doors open and the film playing. Feel free to come by whenever you’re done class or work, for 10 minutes or an hour, or make an afternoon of it with us. We will have snacks and chairs. You are welcome to bring blankets, pillows, and anything else you need to feel comfortable.

The screening will take place in the McGoldrick Salons (2nd floor) and is free and open to the public.
